The Electoral Commission says its online voter registration portal has been zero-rated, allowing South Africans to register, verify, or update their details without incurring data charges.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has announced a second voter registration weekend for 1 and 2 August, giving eligible South Africans another opportunity to register or update their details ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
Speaking during a media briefing on Monday following the voter registration weekend, IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo said the additional registration period forms part of efforts to expand voter access and strengthen electoral participation.
"The Commission announces a second voter registration weekend, which will take place on the 1st and 2nd of August. This additional weekend will provide additional opportunities for citizens to register and to update their details," Mamabolo said.
The announcement comes after the IEC recorded 2.9 million voter registrations on Saturday and Sunday, which increased the national voters’ roll to 28.5 million voters.
