IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says the commission has referred the matter to police after footage showed alleged irregularities during the voter registration weekend in Victor Khanye Municipality.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says a criminal case has been opened after a voter registration officer was allegedly seen with several identity documents and registering people who were not present at a voting station.
The incident, which has gained traction on social media, was addressed by IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo during a media briefing on Monday following the voter registration weekend.
''We note footage circulated on 21 June 2026, showing an IEC registration official in possession of multiple IDs, allegedly received from an ANC member. Preliminary investigation confirms the incident occurred at Okhela Primary School VS, Ward 9, Victor Khanye Municipality, Nkangala,'' said the IEC.
A video circulating on social media appears to show ANC-branded regalia, including T-shirts, scarves, pamphlets, and other promotional material, placed near an IEC registration desk.
