An Athens taxi driver has been arrested on suspicion of using his vehicle to traffic marijuana, after a police check discovered more than nine kilograms of the drug in the car’s boot.

A police statement said the 30-year-old suspect – only identified as a foreign national – was arrested Friday in the capital together with a 28-year-old Greek woman, following a tip-off.

Officers found 9.36 kilos of marijuana in the vehicle and €18,000 in cash. The taxi was confiscated.

Police said the taxi driver had previous arrests for alleged attempted robbery.
