There is some convergence in the European Union, but this mainly concerns the price level of food and other goods and services, rather than the GDP per capita and purchasing power.
Therefore, according to the data Eurostat announced on Thursday, the price level of food and nonalcoholic beverages in Greece – despite the de-escalation of inflation in 2025 – was 5.3% above the EU-27 average.
There are food categories where the price level in Greece was at particularly high levels. A typical example is dairy products, with prices being 29.9% above the EU average, and Greece being the most expensive country.
