The start of astronomical summer in Bulgaria is expected to bring a sharp rise in temperatures, with forecasts pointing to a hot weekend and the likelihood of continued heatwave conditions into the end of the month.

According to the forecast, temperatures will gradually increase from Friday through Sunday. On Friday, daytime highs are expected to range between 26°C and 31°C, while on June 21, the first day of summer, values are projected to reach 34–35°C in the afternoon.

The weather over the weekend is expected to remain mostly sunny, although afternoon cloud development is likely. Meteorologists also warn of brief thunderstorms on Sunday, mainly over mountainous regions and parts of eastern Bulgaria.

Conditions are expected to intensify during the first week of summer, with daytime temperatures commonly ranging between 30°C and 35°C, and in some areas peaking locally at around 38°C, marking the peak of the early-summer heatwave.

The forecast also indicates a higher risk of unstable weather early in the week. Thunderstorms with potential hail are expected to develop, initially in western Bulgaria on Monday, before spreading more widely across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.
