According to Sowore, while Justice M.G. Umar was revoking his bail in a DSS-related case and seeking to keep him in custody until the next adjourned date, Egbetokun was simultaneously before another court in Abuja seeking an order that could lead to his committal to prison over a SaharaReporters publication.

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has stated that a coordinated campaign of "lawfare and persecution" is being waged against him, following separate court proceedings in Abuja that could potentially lead to his imprisonment.

Sowore made this known on Wednesday while reacting to developments in two separate legal matters involving the Department of State Services (DSS) and former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The activist described the developments as part of a well-organised effort to silence him and suppress investigative journalism.
