Human rights activist and Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has noted that Nigeria's criminal justice system is being used to keep citizens in prolonged detention through stringent bail conditions.

Sowore also cited cases of several inmates he met while in custody at the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja.

In a post shared on his X account on Saturday, Sowore reflected on his time in detention, alleging that many inmates remained behind bars despite being granted bail because they were unable to satisfy what he described as unrealistic conditions imposed by the courts.

"I was sent to prison by Tinubu," Sowore wrote.
