Traffic through the Teatralna and Hadzhi Dimitar stations on Sofia’s third metro line has been restored earlier than originally planned, according to Metropolitan EAD.

Regular service resumed on Monday morning, with the first train departing from Hadzhi Dimitar station at 5:00 a.m. The company said construction and installation work in the area was completed ahead of schedule following instructions from Metropolitan’s management.

The accelerated completion of the project was aimed at improving transportation conditions in the capital and reducing congestion ahead of the upcoming state matriculation exams, when thousands of students and their families are expected to travel across the city.

Metropolitan Executive Director Nikolay Naydenov said the early reopening of the two stations was intended to support smoother mobility during graduation exam days. “The early restoration of traffic in the area of the two stations is our contribution to calmer movement throughout the city during the matriculation exams,” he said.

According to Naydenov, the restored metro service will provide students and their families with a fast, reliable, and predictable transportation option while also helping ease automobile traffic in Sofia during one of the busiest periods of the school year.
