Thessaloniki’s metro system has suspended operations for 22 days, as crews conduct testing linked to the network’s expansion toward the suburb of Kalamaria, authorities said. Service is expected to resume on June 20.
The city’s public transport operator, OASTH, has reintroduced the M1 bus line, which will operate as a semi-express route along the metro’s main service corridor during the shutdown.
The Thessaloniki Metro began operations in late 2024 following years of delays and is considered one of the city’s largest public infrastructure projects. The extension to Kalamaria is expected to improve transport links to the southeastern districts of Greece’s second-largest city.
