Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has commented on the resignation of acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Georgi Kandev, saying the decision came as a surprise and was not accompanied by any explanation in direct communication with him.

Demerdzhiev stated that the resignation will be accepted, but noted that Kandev did not raise any concerns during their meetings. “Georgi Kandev’s decision surprised me. He did not present reasons to me,” the minister said, adding that he had expected any issues to be discussed personally rather than made public through social media.
He also criticized the way the announcement was made, stressing that he believed such matters should be handled directly. “I was raised that men should speak directly and loudly in person, and if Mr. Kandev had something to say, he should have said it in a conversation with me, and not for us to read on Facebook. This is not dignified,” Demerdzhiev said.
The minister further noted that Kandev had enjoyed his trust from the beginning of his appointment and that there had been no indications of dissatisfaction or disagreement. He emphasized that the resignation was submitted without prior warning, despite what he described as routine operational meetings held shortly before the announcement.
