Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has launched a series of senior-level personnel changes within the Interior Ministry, with three regional police directors replaced within just a few days.
The reshuffles come after almost all 28 regional Interior Ministry directors were removed before the elections by then service Interior Minister Emil Dechev and Secretary General Georgi Kandev. At the time, the move was explained as an effort to appoint officials who would ensure fair elections. After the vote, representatives of President Rumen Radev’s political circle, including Demerdzhiev, praised the work of the Interior Ministry and its regional leadership.
When he took office as regular interior minister, Demerdzhiev said he would not carry out automatic personnel changes and would first evaluate the results of the existing leadership. However, new replacements are now being made by ministerial orders.
In Vidin, Senior Commissioner Svetoslav Grigorov has been temporarily appointed as director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry by order of Demerdzhiev dated August 3. Acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry Lyubomir Nikolov introduced Grigorov to the staff in the presence of the regional governor.
