Temperatures across Greece dipped on Thursday morning as a weather system moving in from the northwest was bringing rain and thunderstorms to much of the mainland, with forecasters warning of locally severe conditions in parts of the north and center.
The strongest storms are expected in Epirus, Thessaly and Macedonia, where heavy rainfall and isolated hailstorms are possible, according to forecasts.
The system is expected to spread from the northern Ionian Sea and northwestern Greece across central and northern regions, including Thrace.
Southern and eastern island areas, including Crete, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese and the eastern Aegean islands, will remain largely unaffected.
The cooler weather marks a break from the recent heat, with temperatures in eastern mainland areas seen reaching 30-31 degrees Celsius, down from highs of around 34C earlier this week. In western and northern Greece, temperatures are expected to stay below 30C.
