A draft bill aimed at strengthening pay equality between men and women has been posted for public consultation by the Labor and Social Insurance Ministry.
The legislation incorporates Directive (EU) 2023/970 of the European Parliament and Council, adopted on May 10, 2023, and seeks to eliminate pay disparities linked to an employee’s gender.
The bill contains 45 articles and introduces measures designed to promote transparency and accountability in pay practices before and after hiring. It will remain open for comments until June 17.
“Payment of employees should be based on the quality of their work and their skills, not on their gender. To this end, the new bill establishes specific obligations in two stages: before hiring and after hiring,” Labor and Social Insurance Minister Niki Kerameus said, adding that the legislation seeks to introduce “clear rules, greater accountability and fundamental control mechanisms” in the labor market, “with equal opportunities for everyone.”
The draft bill is available for consultation here.
