A man arrested in the southern town of Kalamata on suspicion of stabbing his wife to death following a domestic dispute is expected to appear before an investigative magistrate on Tuesday.
Despite his initial claim that his wife had injured herself, the 41-year-old suspect has allegedly confessed to her murder, claiming that he had acted in self-defense.
However, testimonies from neighbors indicate that the 39-year-old woman was heard calling for help before her death, while police has not found evidence of struggle at the scene of the crime, while the victim had multiple injuries to the body and head, according to state-run broadcaster ERT.
A forensic report is expected to be issued later in the day.
A police statement said the 39-year-old woman’s body was found in her flat before dawn on Monday by officers sent to the spot after neighbors called emergency services.
