Australia has provided information and communication technology equipment valued at $450,000 (AU$260,000) to support Samoa’s e-Health project, bringing its total investment in improving Samoa’s digital health capability to around $7.5 million (AU$4.5 million) since 2021.
The equipment was presented on Tuesday by Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn AC, to Samoa’s Minister for Health, Va’aaoao Salumalo Alofipo.
The new equipment includes computers, laptops, portable workstations and printers designed to improve access to patient medical records across Samoa’s health facilities.
The e-Health project helps health staff access patient medical records more quickly, supporting timely and effective patient management decisions.
Australia’s support for Samoa’s health sector also includes investments in Tamanu, an electronic medical records platform, and Tupaia, a data and analytics platform. Australia also helped fund the construction of the Ministry of Health’s Pharmaceutical Warehouse at Motootua, where the presentation took place.
