The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has provided communications equipment to the Samoa Police as part of preparations for the country’s upcoming Independence celebrations.
The Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services received one hundred portable radios and accessories, valued at about $200,000, under the Samoa-Australia Police Partnership (SAPP).
Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga received the equipment from AFP Senior Responsible Officer Superintendent Simon Penny last week.
The Samoa police said the radios will improve communication between officers and strengthen coordination during large public events.
The support comes as Samoa prepares for its Independence Day celebrations, which are expected to draw large crowds across the country.
