Three people, including a couple, died in separate accidents in the district on Sunday evening.According to police, V. Raji (66), a resident of Yethapur near Puthiragoundampalayam, and his wife R. Suriya (56) ran a fish shop in the locality. The two were returning home on a moped on Sunday after purchasing fish from Salem when an unidentified vehicle rammed the moped and fled at Mettupatti.The couple sustained grievous injuries, and Suriya died on the spot. Raji was admitted to Government Hospital in Salem, but she later succumbed to her injuries. The Vazhapadi police registered.In the second incident, Gopi (50), a resident of Seventh Mile near Ayothiyapattinam, was trying to cross the Salem-Chennai National Highway on Sunday when a minivan hit him. The vehicles that came after the van also ran over Gopi. He died on the spot. The Karipatti police sent the body to Government Hospital in Salem for a post-mortem examination.
