Two persons were killed and two other sustained injuries in separate accidents in Salem and Namakkal districts on Saturday (August 22).According to police, Goutham (29), a resident of Edappadi and a lorry driver, was heading to Tiruppur from Hyderabad in the wee hours of Saturday. At Adimalaipudur near Veeranam in Salem district, the lorry went out of the driver’s control and hit a roadside tamarind tree. Goutham died on the spot. Lorry cleaner Jayakumar was admitted to a private hospital for treatment of injuries. The Veeranam police registered a case.In the second incident, M. Ganapathi (55), a resident of Tiruchengode in Namakkal district and a foreman at the TNPDCL office at Gurusamipalayam, was heading home on a two-wheeler after work on Friday night. At Sekkarapatti bus stop, the two-wheeler collided with a car. Ganapathi died on the spot. The Elachipalayam police registered a case.In another incident, K. Ramesh (45), a resident of Kunnam in Perambalur district and a lorry driver, was heading to Perambalur from Salem in the wee hours of Saturday. At Karipatti on the Salem-Chennai National Highway, an omnibus, which was trying to overtake the lorry, hit the back of the vehicle. In an impact, the lorry overturned.
