CPJ said its findings, compiled in an interactive map, detailed incidents involving journalists in at least 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of attempting to downplay growing attacks on press freedom in Nigeria, revealing that at least 91 journalists have been arrested, assaulted, or harassed since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

In a report titled “Tracking Tinubu’s tenure: CPJ exposes Nigeria’s media repression reality,” the international press freedom organisation said the Nigerian government’s repeated denial of attacks against journalists contradicts documented evidence gathered across the country.

CPJ said its findings, compiled in an interactive map, detailed incidents involving journalists in at least 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The report followed comments made by Vice President Kashim Shettima in February, when he claimed that journalists had not faced harassment under Tinubu’s administration.
