The PDP said the report, published on the Human Rights Foundation's Tyranny Tracker platform, showed that Nigeria recorded poor scores across key democratic indicators.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of turning Nigeria into a "fully authoritarian state," citing a recent assessment by the Human Rights Foundation which classified the country as an authoritarian regime.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Interim National Working Committee through the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party said the report merely validated what Nigerians had already been experiencing under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
According to the PDP, the Human Rights Foundation's findings reflected the erosion of democratic institutions, suppression of dissent and the weakening of constitutional checks and balances under the current administration.
The statement partly read: "The report by the Human Rights Foundation, in its latest global assessment, classifying Nigeria as a fully authoritarian regime is a mere global confirmation of the local reality that Nigerians have been facing under the APC-led Federal Government.
