Amnesty International condemned the recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno states, describing them as evidence of the government’s failure to guarantee the safety of children and teachers.

Human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of failing to tackle the worsening wave of abductions targeting schoolchildren, rural communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Nigeria.

The organisation said at least 1,100 people were abducted across the country between January and April 2026, warning that the continued attacks exposed the inability of the Nigerian government to protect vulnerable citizens despite years of repeated promises to end insecurity.

In a statement, Amnesty International condemned the recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno states, describing them as evidence of the government’s failure to guarantee the safety of children and teachers.

According to the organisation, last week alone, gunmen abducted 39 students and seven teachers during coordinated attacks on several schools in Ahoro Esinele community in Oriire District of Oyo State.
