The media rights organisation also condemned the stringent bail conditions imposed on Secret Reporters journalist Stanley Ugagbe after his alleged secret detention and disappearance, as well as the espionage summons issued to the publication's publisher, Fejiro Oliver.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called on Nigerian authorities to immediately end what it described as the harassment and arbitrary targeting of journalists, while expressing concern over a growing pattern of abuse by the country's security agencies.
The media rights organisation also condemned the stringent bail conditions imposed on Secret Reporters journalist Stanley Ugagbe after his alleged secret detention and disappearance, as well as the espionage summons issued to the publication's publisher, Fejiro Oliver.
Reacting to the developments, CPJ Africa Director Angela Quintal criticised the treatment of journalists by Nigerian security agencies.
“It is outrageous that journalist Zainab Sodiq has been jailed by intelligence agents and has seemingly been denied due process. It is also utterly punitive for Stanley Ugagbe to spend hours, every other day, needlessly reporting to the police,” Quintal said.
