Τhe direct economic contribution of tourism to the Greek economy in 2025 reached €32.4 billion, which amounts to 13% of Greece’s gross domestic product, according to the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE).

Taking into account the multiplier benefits, the total direct and indirect contribution is estimated between €71.3 billion and €85.9 billion, or between 28.7% and 34.6% of GDP. The direct impact of the sector recorded an increase of 7.3% compared to €30.2 billion in 2024, within an unstable and constantly changing international macroeconomic environment, according to the annual study by INSETE on tourism’s contribution in the economy in 2025.

Examining in detail the direct contribution of €32.4 billion, the largest part comes from the expenditure of inbound tourism which, together with cruises, reached €23.6 billion. This is followed by air transport with €3.1 billion, domestic tourism with €2.5 billion and domestic added value from tourism investments, which amounted to €2.4 billion, out of a total investment of €5 billion. The participation of cruise companies, with expenditures of €673 million and maritime transport with €147 million, is smaller.

The momentum of tourism is proving extremely strong, as every euro of tourism revenue creates an additional €1.20 to €1.65 of economic activity, ultimately increasing GDP by €2.20 to €2.65.
