According to information obtained by IranWire, Jana Sadouei, a 19-year-old mother of two from the village of Tarimish in the Kotur district of Khoy County, was allegedly murdered by her husband on Tuesday, May 16.
Sources familiar with the case said the husband tried to present the incident as a “suicide” after inflicting fatal injuries on her. However, findings from the forensic medical examination, along with inconsistencies in the accounts and statements given, reportedly revealed the reality of the murder and the attempt to stage the scene.
According to an informed source, Jana Sadouei’s husband was arrested by police after the incident, but later went into hiding after being granted temporary release.
The killing comes amid growing reports of domestic violence and femicide in Iran, especially in underdeveloped and traditional areas. Women’s rights activists have repeatedly raised concerns over the lack of sufficient legal protection for women facing violence, as well as the lenient process surrounding the temporary release of suspects in domestic violence cases.
