Vunobolki, who reportedly stood as the sole aspirant under one faction of the embattled party, was unanimously affirmed by party members and stakeholders during the exercise held on Sunday.

The crisis rocking Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may have taken a dramatic turn after Maurice Vunobolki on Sunday emerged as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Adamawa State election through affirmation by delegates drawn from the state’s 21 local government areas and 226 political wards.

Vunobolki, who reportedly stood as the sole aspirant under one faction of the embattled party, was unanimously affirmed by party members and stakeholders during the exercise held on Sunday.

Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Debo Olugunagba, thereafter officially declared Vunobolki as the party’s governorship candidate following the affirmation exercise.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Vunobolki accepted the nomination and challenged candidates of other political parties to a public debate on the future of Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
