Authorities seized some P136 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested two drug suspects in a buy-bust operation in Naga City, Cebu, on Saturday afternoon, the regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said.In a report, PDEA said around 20 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, were confiscated during the operation conducted at Purok Gaway-Gaway in Barangay Uling at around 4:50 p.m. on May 23.Joel Plaza, regional director of PDEA Region 7, identified the arrested suspects only by their aliases Romy, 57, an electrician, and Dante, 47, a construction worker. Both are residents of Laguna.Authorities said the operation was carried out by operatives from the PDEA Cebu Provincial Office, PDEA 7 Intelligence and Investigation Unit, Philippine Coast Guard Intelligence Group Central Visayas, Naval Forces Central, Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group, Cebu Police Provincial Office–Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, and the Naga City Police Office.Seized during the operation were 20 vacuum-sealed packs of suspected shabu weighing about 20 kilograms, buy-bust money, three mobile phones, a compact sedan, and other non-drug evidence.The confiscated substances were submitted to the PDEA 7 Regional Office laboratory for examination, while the suspects are being held at the agency’s office in Lahug, Cebu City.Authorities said the suspects will face charges for alleged sale and possession of dangerous drugs, and conspiracy to sell dangerous drugs under Article II of Republic Act No. 9165.If convicted, the suspects could face life imprisonment and fines of up to P10 million.—MCG, GMA News
