More than a dozen people have been charged with involvement in a gang behind a string of burglaries and at least one armed robbery in northern Greece that netted them more than €200,000, authorities said Thursday.

A police statement said nine suspects were arrested Wednesday in Thessaloniki and surrounding areas and face charges including belonging to a criminal organization, robbery, money-laundering and aggravated theft.

Another five people escaped arrest but face similar charges.

The statement said the suspects "pursued a luxurious lifestyle ... and sold the stolen valuables to pawn shops."

Police said the gang was active in Thessaloniki at least since April 2025, and had stolen at least €149,000 in cash and valuables worth some €56,500.
