Greek authorities said Wednesday they have unravelled an international gang that masterminded break-ins at high-value real estate in two continents working along the principle of what police called “criminal tourism.”
A police statement said that so far the four suspects – three foreign nationals and a Greek – are suspected of being behind one burglary in Greece. The December 2025 hit in the Greater Athens region netted the gang luxury watches worth some €1.5 million in total, the statement said.
All four face charges of belonging to a criminal organization, following an investigation in which the police forces of several countries assisted Greece’s organized crime squad. The suspected gang leader is already in prison in Greece after being arrested over a string of burglaries in the affluent northern and southern suburbs of Athens.
The gang allegedly burgled homes in several European and South American countries, with members visiting Greece for short periods to break into homes in the Greater Athens region, in what the police statement described as “cross-border crime known as criminal tourism.”
