Hamed Tizrouyan, a well-known wildlife photographer and environmental activist, has been arrested in Sari.
Zeynab Rahimi, an environmental journalist, reported on the matter, noting that Hamed Tizrouyan was detained on May 4 and that his mobile phone and other electronic devices were confiscated.
The charge leveled against Hamed Tizrouyan has been stated as “assembly and collusion with the intent to act against national security.” His arrest follows the publication of critical posts on social media regarding the killing of protesters in December/January, as well as his outspoken opposition to executions.
Hamed Tizrouyan’s Instagram page had previously been blocked for several days in November/December 2025 due to his criticism of government officials regarding the handling of the Alit forest fires in Mazandaran.
The photographer and environmentalist is one of Iran’s prominent and celebrated wildlife photographers. His portfolio includes capturing rare photographs of Iranian wildlife, including endangered species such as the brown bear and the Caspian red deer (Maral).
