Hojjat Kermani, a defense attorney, announced the rearrest of environmental activists Houman Jowkar and Sepideh Kashani by security forces.
In an interview with Emtedad, Kermani stated that security agents arrived at the couple’s residence at approximately 4:30 PM on Wednesday, July 1. The agents confiscated all electronic devices before taking the pair into custody.
According to the attorney, security forces also arrested Sima Kashani, the sister of Sepideh Kashani. Kermani added that it remains unclear which security agency carried out the arrests.
Highlighting the upcoming public holidays and the subsequent closure of judicial offices, Kermani expressed deep concern over the detainees’ situation, noting that these circumstances have heightened the anxiety of their families.
Sepideh Kashani and Houman Jowkar are members of the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation. They were initially arrested by the IRGC Intelligence Organization in the winter of 2018 alongside several other environmentalists. After serving several years in prison, the couple was released in April 2024 following an official pardon.
