LUCENA CITY — The Power for People Coalition (P4P) urged the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to adopt stronger measures to protect consumers from the worsening energy crisis, saying the suspension of electricity disconnections and staggered payment schemes are not enough.

Gerry Arances, convenor of P4P, said the no-disconnection policy and deferred payment arrangements were welcome initiatives but should remain in effect throughout the duration of the energy emergency.

“But the ERC cannot stop at that. It needs to address the high costs passed onto consumers in the largest part of our electricity bills, or else it is simply allowing unjust charges to accumulate for consumers– whether today or at the end of the grace period,” Arances said in a statement sent by P4P to the Inquirer on Thursday.
