LUCENA CITY – A national coalition of consumer groups expressed some reservations about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to amend the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (EPIRA) to abolish system loss charges that are passed on to electricity consumers, saying the measure is long overdue but falls short of addressing the country’s broader energy problems.
“It’s appalling to hear just how proud of itself the government is after leaving consumers to fend for themselves in the face of the energy crisis and after the Philippines climbed the ranks of Southeast Asian countries paying the highest electricity costs,” Gerry Arances, convenor of the Power for People Coalition (P4P), said in a statement on Tuesday.
