Teachers encouraged me, and my parents pushed me, which enabled me to score full marks, said Class 10 student Preetham G. Poojary of Udupi district, after SSLC examination-1 results were announced on April 23.
A student of Mother Theresa Memorial School in Shankaranarayana of Kundapura Taluk, Preetham is the eldest of the two children of Ganapathy Poojary, a private bus conductor on the Udupi-Mandarthi-Hebri route. His mother, Nagaratna, is a home maker.
Preetham said it was his school founder, B. Shamitha Rao, who egged him on to score centum. When Education Minister Madhu Bangarapppa announced that grades would be awarded, instead of marks, for third language Hindi a day before the paper, Preetham said his father urged him to study well.
“I got a bit complacent, following the announcement. But my father and teachers pushed me. Hence the result,” said an excited Preetham. “I am yet to decide on the career options,” he said.
