It will take weeks or months to restore the A14 motorway and the local railway after extreme weather reawakened a historic sinkhole and caused a massive landslide in Molise, Italy's civil protection chief said Tuesday.
"The situation is very complex and will take a few weeks, if not months," said Fabio Ciciliano, head of the Civil Protection Department, after the Operations Committee meeting convened following the 'reactivation' of the landslide near Petacciato, Molise.
"If we expect the A14 motorway and railway to be restored in 5-7 days," we're wrong.
We're talking about a landslide front 4 km long, and the railway line passes through it.
It's therefore obvious that until it stops, it won't be possible to carry out any type of infrastructure repair. It will take a very long time."
