Harekala Gram Panchayat on Saturday imposed penalty on two commercial establishments for littering on roadside.
A bakery was imposed a penalty of ₹1,000, while an automobile service shop was slapped with a fine of ₹500, an official release said.
As many as 223 gram panchayats took part in the month’s first Saturday’s cleaning drive. Garbage thrown near bus stands and on the State highways were also cleared. Cloth bags were distributed to people who were told not to use banned single-use plastic bags.
Black spots on Shivaji Nagar-Kuvempu Nagar Cross and Odala in the the Ujire Gram Panchayat limits were cleared.
