Tariffs and oil price hikes create a supply shock, dragging down US economic growth in the second quarter of 2026.

The U.S. economy expanded at a sluggish 1.5% pace from April through June as rising imports weighed on growth. But consumer spending rose.

The latest numbers come after GDP expanded 2.1% in the first quarter and a slower 0.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025.
