Youth Day's uncomfortable truth: The struggle isn't over

As South Africa commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising, on Tuesday, June 16, concerns are growing over the political disengagement of young people ahead of next year's local government elections. With most first-time voters still unregistered, the anniversary serves as a reminder that while the struggles of 1976 have changed, today's youth continue to face unemployment, crime and limited opportunities. Political leaders must do more than deliver speeches if they hope to reconnect with a generation increasingly disillusioned by politics.
