Researchers produced the first global maps estimating the distribution and mass of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in top soil. They show that fungal threads, laid end-to-end, would stretch from Earth to the sun a billion times. The maps will help scientists see where underground circulatory systems are thriving or threatened.
