But tech giant says the changes to regional search results for travel are bad for users
Google proposed further changes to its search services in the European Union on Tuesday, aiming to resolve compliance problems for which it was fined €460 million by the bloc in July.
The European Commission fined the search giant under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU’s Big tech rulebook, for unlawfully self-preferencing its own services in Google search.
The July 2026 decision followed a preliminarily finding that Google Search had breached the DMA more than two years earlier.
On Tuesday, Google responded by announcing a series of changes to how it displays search results for queries regarding hotels, flights and transport made by users in the European Economic Area.
