Google $GOOGL rolled out changes to its search results in Europe on Tuesday that it said will reduce the quality of its service, making the changes to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act. The company called it the largest reduction in search quality in its 29-year history, according to Reuters.
The redesigned results elevate price comparison services like Expedia $EXPE and Booking.com in travel and hospitality categories such as hotels, airlines, and restaurants. In the redesigned layout, a single specialized search engine is featured prominently at the top, with two additional ones below it showing less detail, and a carousel of businesses beneath those. Google said it has removed live pricing data from that scrollable section.
