An international architecture competition is seeking a master plan to transform Athens’ Eleonas district, a 500-hecatre area, into a modern area for housing, work and services.
The competition will award three proposals, with prizes totaling €150,000. Designers are asked to address land uses, public spaces, green networks, architecture, social housing, services and mobility.
The plan will consider projects including a stadium and commercial development in Votanikos and an archaeological museum at Plato’s Academy. Five anchors include the intercity bus station, Eleonas metro station, the KTEL site, the museum and the Prophet Daniel stream.
Eleonas developed as an industrial center in the 1950s-70s, then declined after deindustrialization.
