Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis on Thursday announced an international tender for an urban redevelopment project covering 500 hectares around Panathinaikos’ under-construction stadium in the Votanikos-Elaionas area, inner western Athens.

Hatzidakis, who is coordinating the wider redevelopment plan, visited the construction site and was briefed on progress, also reviewing nearby land where the club’s amateur sports facilities will be developed.

“The Panathinaikos stadium in Votanikos is progressing at a very fast pace and will be completed by the summer of 2027,” Hatzidakis said. “Panathinaikos will play there in the 2027-28 season. This is good news for Panathinaikos, for Greek soccer and for Athens.”

He pointed out that the project forms part of a broader urban regeneration plan involving extensive green spaces and sports infrastructure that will significantly upgrade the Greek capital.

From next season, Panathinaikos will temporarily host all home matches at the Athens Olympic Stadium (OAKA) ahead of its planned relocation to the new 39,074-seat stadium in 2027-28, which club owner Yiannis Alafouzos has said remains on schedule for completion in May 2027.
