Orfeos, Agias Annis, Amfipoleos, Dimarakis and Agios Polykarpos streets in Eleonas, an industrial area of Athens, experience daily traffic jams.
A supply chain industry organization is calling on the government to implement immediate traffic interventions in Eleonas, where daily hour-long bottlenecks have exasperated professionals working in the area.
Dimitrios Kiousis, president of the Panhellenic Association of Transportation Companies (PEED), said Orfeos, Agias Annis, Amfipoleos, Dimarakis and Agios Polykarpou streets are jammed for several hours every day, creating serious obstacles to the operation of transport, commercial and other businesses in the area.
The main productive activity in Eleonas is carried out by 390 transport companies which, with their 4,000 daily truck routes, burden not only the tiny streets of Eleonas but mainly the bottlenecked Kifissos Avenue, which is a few hundred meters away.
In a recent meeting with executives of the Attica Traffic Police and the Municipality of Athens, it was agreed to make Dimaraki and Orfeos streets one-way, and have police officers present daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to facilitate traffic.
