Diesel prices in Bulgaria could rise above 1.90 euros per liter next week and approach 1.95 euros if conditions on international markets remain unchanged, according to Dimitar Hadzhidimitrov of the Association of Fuel Traders, Producers, Importers and Transporters.
As of September 8, the average retail price of diesel in Bulgaria is around 1.81 euros per liter, while A95 gasoline is selling for about 1.57 euros. Hadzhidimitrov warned that the upward trend seen in recent weeks is likely to continue as geopolitical risks and supply problems keep pressure on the fuel market.
"I am not a great optimist. The situation from the last time has not only not normalized, but is even getting worse," Hadzhidimitrov said. He noted that gasoline and diesel prices have already increased by around 6 to 7 euro cents per liter in recent weeks.
Asked whether diesel could reach 2 euros, he stopped short of making that prediction but said the market was heading toward the 1.95-euro level next week. "I won't say 2 euros, but we will already be in this position of 1.95, so to speak, for diesel, next week," he said.
The expected increase is being driven by several factors, including heightened geopolitical risks, low stocks of finished petroleum products, high refinery margins and seasonal demand. According to Hadzhidimitrov, the world currently has sufficient crude oil, but not enough refining capacity operating at full levels.
