The Plovdiv District Court has refused to restore the deadline for appealing the detention measure imposed on one of the two 17-year-old boys accused in the murder of Georgi Kuzev on Youth Hill.
The court ruled that there was no valid reason to restore the missed deadline. When the teenager was formally charged, a public defender was appointed to represent him, including during the hearing at which the court ordered his detention in custody.
The magistrates noted that the boy’s lawyer had been on leave, but said this did not prevent an appeal from being filed. According to the court, the attorney continued to represent the teenager on other occasions during the leave period.
Meanwhile, the court is considering whether to review the detention measures imposed on the boys from the second group of suspects accused in connection with the Youth Hill murder.
The 15-year-old suspect is the only one of the three teenagers who has appealed his detention to a higher court. The second-instance court upheld the measure and left him in custody.
