The court in Sofia has upheld a decision to release without bail a 20-year-old man accused in the death of a 16-year-old girl in Blagoevgrad, a case that has drawn significant public attention and remains under active investigation.
The three-judge panel confirmed the earlier ruling of the Blagoevgrad District Court, which refused to impose permanent detention on Alexander Georgiev. The decision is final and cannot be appealed.

The case relates to the death of 16-year-old Ivana, who fell from the fifth floor of a residential building in the Strumsko district of Blagoevgrad on the night of May 23–24, 2026. A 17-year-old boy was also found injured after falling from the same apartment and was hospitalized in Sofia in critical condition.
Prosecutors have charged Georgiev with premeditated murder in connection with the girl’s death, but the district court previously concluded that the evidence was insufficient to justify continued detention. The appellate judges agreed, noting that key investigative work is still ongoing.
