The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has begun work on a dedicated cycling track along the Beach Road, with the first phase being laid from the Naval Coastal Battery (NCB) towards Sagar Nagar. The track has so far been completed up to the Pandurangapuram Down area. The remaining stretch will be taken up in phases, with the proposed track extending towards Sagar Nagar. Once completed, the beachfront facility is expected to offer cycling enthusiasts a dedicated route with scenic views of the coastline. The project has been taken up initially with an estimated budget of about ₹80 lakh. However, the GVMC is also executing underground drainage works at several locations along the beachfront, including the stretch between the NCB and YMCA. The cycling track works in those portions will be taken up after the works are completed, said GVMC Chief Engineer PVV Satyanarayana Raju.It may be noted that the corporation has already proposed two exclusive cycling tracks to encourage cycling culture and provide a healthy and pleasant environment while reducing pollution. It may be remembered that a beachfront cycling track has been proposed near Sagar Nagar Beach, measuring 700 metres. Another track was proposed in the vicinity of the Arilova, near Old Skill Development Centre, measuring 5.20 km.These projects have been designed to promote cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly mode of transport among city residents. The beachfront track, once completed, is expected to add a new dimension to the city’s cycling culture, allowing enthusiasts to ride along the coast while enjoying the scenic surroundings.
