Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg has directed officials to complete all major development, infrastructure and beautification works in the city within the stipulated timelines, ahead of the International Partnership Summit scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam in November.On Thursday, the Commissioner reviewed the arrangements for the Summit with engineering and zonal officials through a video conference from the GVMC head office.Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that there is a possibility of a regional summit being held in the second week of October, ahead of the International Partnership Summit, and instructed the officials to ensure the city was fully prepared well in advance. He made it clear that all major and urgent development works should be completed by September 15.As delegates from across India and abroad are expected to attend the Summit, the Commissioner directed officials to identify major roads, repair potholes and damaged stretches, and take up construction of new roads wherever necessary.He instructed officials to give special attention to infrastructure and beautification works, including major roads from RK Beach to Bheemunipatnam, connectivity roads, drainage, underground drainage (UGD), street lighting, footpaths, fountains, greenery, electric poles, wall paintings and bus bays.The Commissioner directed that sanitation maintenance should continue uninterrupted across the city and that special measures should be taken to ensure that no waste is visible on major roads, at junctions and tourist locations. He instructed Additional Commissioner (Public Health) P. Nallanayya to take necessary measures to prevent sewage and waste from entering the sea along the Beach Road stretch.Representatives of Nippon Koei India Private Limited gave a presentation on proposals for the development of major junctions. Mr. Garg directed that junctions should be developed scientifically, taking into consideration traffic congestion and road safety. He also suggested developing green islands and increasing greenery and installing CCTV cameras at required locations.The Commissioner instructed officials to undertake beautification works from the city entry points to key locations so that delegates attending the Summit would have a pleasant experience of Visakhapatnam. He made it clear that Zonal Commissioners and engineering officials should take personal responsibility for completing the works within the stipulated timelines without compromising on quality.Meanwhile, Additional Commissioner P.M. Satyaveni directed officials to complete all development works pertaining to Street Vendor Zones by August 25. She instructed them to ensure necessary infrastructure, sanitation facilities, electricity, water supply and CCTV cameras for the convenience of vendors and the public.
