BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty interrupted politician Robert Jenrick during Saturday's show09:18, 05 Sep 2026Updated 11:25, 05 Sep 2026Naga Munchetty brand Reform UK 'not an opposition party'BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was locked in a heated discussion with Robert Jenrick during the latest edition of the morning show.‌The TV host weighed in after Reform promised to increase the tax-free personal allowance to £15,000 if it wins the next general election. They estimate that increasing the threshold by £2,430 would save most taxpayers £500 a year, and 2.9 million people would stop paying income tax altogether.‌Jenrick, Reform's economic spokesman and MP for Newark, appeared on Saturday's (September 5) epsiode of the BBC morning programme live from the party's conference in Birmingham to discuss their proposed policy and Naga quickly challenged Reform's political position, dubbing them "not the opposition party".‌The presenter started the interview by asking Jenrick if the party had seen the treasury books to support their plan to increase tax-free allowances."Well, we haven't had access to the treasury books", Jenrick admitted before adding, "The treasury hasn't opened itself up to us, but most of the information is in the public domain, and so we have done our sums, worked out exactly how we would pay for this, and we're very confident that we can."‌Jenrick added it was a "big decision" costing £17billion, but said the plan would be funded by "cutting out the waste", including "getting people off welfare and back into the workplace, but stopping paying foreign aid to rich countries". He added that Reform would "get things done" while in power.Naga didn't appear confident with any policies, and later added: "Reform UK is not in government, neither is the gentleman who was giving a speech in France, so when you're in government that's when you can say things would get done. It's always a delight having you on this programme", she added as she tried to end the interview.‌Jenrick quickly interrupted and said, "If I could answer your last point there, if, in opposition, Nigel Farage is able to sign a deal," but Naga quickly stepped in and added, "You are one of many parties in opposition; the Conservative Party is the opposition party."He quickly defended his political party, adding: "Well, we are an opposition party as well, Naga," before the host chipped back in: "It's not a done deal, you have a blue piece of paper suggesting what you would do as a deal, it's not a done deal."The interview quickly sparked a reaction among BBC Breakfast viewers who took to X to show their support for Naga.
