Reform MP Robert Jenrick was interviewed by Sally Nugent live on Tuesday's BBC Breakfast08:29, 28 Jul 2026Viewers of BBC Breakfast said the same thing as Sally Nugent interviewed a Reform MP.Sally and her co-host Jon Kay returned to the Salford studios on Tuesday (July 28) to deliver the day's biggest headlines from across the UK and around the world.Later in the show, Sally interviewed Reform MP Robert Jenrick, who was stood outside the Palace of Westminister. The conversation soon got heated when the BBC presenter asked Jenrick about a social media post of his which has sparked considerable backlash. The MP has been accused of sharing a misleadingly edited audio clip about Labour MP Jo White's stance on migrant boat crossings.Reform UK posted a clip of White which appeared to suggest that she told constituents last year: "I don't care if we stop the boats." White has since shared an extended version of the clip in which she said: "I don't care who will stop the boats... my number one priority is to stop those boats."White later wrote on social media: "Robert Jenrick is spreading a false account of what I said at a meeting with my constituents last year... Reform have deliberately twisted my words to mislead the public. They should withdraw their false claim and immediately apologise."Sally Nugent demanded answers from Jenrick during the latest episode of BBC Breakfast."Last week, you were accused of sharing misleading content online, taken from a speech made by Labour's Jo White. A speech that had been edited and was then posted. Have you apologised for what you did?" the host asked.Jenrick replied: "Well, I decided to take the post down that you're referring to and give Jo White the benefit of the doubt. I don't know exactly what she did or didn't say, all I can say to you is that a local resident sent me a recording in which at one point she said she wants to stop the boats. [The] next turn of phrase she said [was] that she didn't care about stopping the boats."She's published a version of it that seems different to the one that the resident had sent to me. I think I'm a fair-minded person, I decided to take it down. What really matters here and the point I was making in the post..."Sally quickly interrupted to say: "So sorry to interrupt you there but we are just coming up to the news. It wasn't right. It was false, wasn't it? And you know that's not what she said, so would you apologise?"Jenrick replied: "I don't know that actually," moments before Sally hit back: "We do because we have the full transcript. We have the full audio that people can hear."The MP claimed that there were two audio recordings of the meeting, with Sally noting that one was "clearly edited"."The other is not clearly edited actually," Jenrick went on to say, before Sally gave him "one more opportunity to apologise" for his post. "Honestly, deal with the issues that really matter to people," the frustrated MP concluded.Viewers were quick to praise Sally for her questioning during the interview, with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing: "Fair play to Sally Nugent at the end calling him out." Another added: "Robert Jenrick having an absolute nightmare on the Beeb."A third said: "Doctored clip? Yes Sally that's terrible who would do such a thing," while someone else commented: "The desperation of @RobertJenrick & Reform UK has become very clear to see."Article continues belowMeanwhile, others were left frustrated by the "appalling interview".BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
